Zinio is a magazine app with a huge difference. Unlike regular magazine apps that just show the pages within the mag Zinio has captured all of the text to all you to read articles in a “kindle” style interface. You do not miss the experience of flicking through the pages, looking for articles that take your interest, however you don’t have to zoom in and struggle to read the magazine, instead you can read the electronic text version of every article.

You can also subscribe to magazines and purchase one-off mags within the app or on the website. This is hugely flexible and makes any device a great magazine reader that will get pushed the latest content as it is published.

There are a few things that I would like to see implemented, like having newspaper or even RSS feeds built in, but since they have yet to produce the official app for android I am confident that this will come.

In a time where paper media is very concerned about the future direction of the industry it is this type of software that will help the transistion. It gives you the traditional magazine feel with the benifits of an electronic, easy to read function built on top.

The company seems to be well founded and they have deals with all of the major magazines (there wasn’t a magazine that I could not find). Therefore I really hope that this goes far and becomes the primary place for all electronic media consumption.

UPDATE – You can now download the official app on the android market – https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zinio.mobile.android.reader&hl=en&rdid=com.zinio.mobile.android.reader&rdot=1
